Stock Rock

Stock Rock Information for Contractors

  1. Stock Rock is a volcanic mineral called Clinoptilolite Zeolite which is mined at Ngakuru south west of Rotorua.

  2. Stock Rock is very light and weighs 1 ton per cubic meter.

  3. Stock Rock is soft but durable. It looks and feels like chalk.

  4. Stock Rock goes 50-60% further than any other quarried rock.

  5. Stock Rock does not damage cow’s feet because it has no sharp edges that can cause hoof damage.

  6. When Stock Rock is trampled onto the cowshed yard it just breaks down and doesn’t cause bruising.

  7. Stock Rock is crushed by a rolls Crusher at 80mm all in and costs $14 per ton plus GST.

  8. Stock Rock 40mm is screened and costs $20 per ton and covers more square area at a lesser thickness which is suitable for areas 200 meters away from the cowshed.

  9. Farmers need advice when laying Stock Rock. It is very important to follow the laying procedure. Failure to do this may result in failure of the product.

  10. Stock Rock should not be left in the rain before laying.

Stock Rock Applications

Step 1: Scrape off existing farm race cleaning out all potholes and soft edges.

Step 2: Grade and reshape and compact the clean race surface so that there is a nice even camber shape to the race. There should not be more than 6% gradient from the centre of the race to the outside edge of the race.

Step 3: Supply and deliver and spread and compact the STOCK ROCK to 180mm thick before compaction. NOTE THAT 30 TON OF STOCK ROCK SHOULD ONLY COVER 170 SQUARE METERS ONLY. It is best to mark out the area that you wish to cove and use all the loads to cover that area. NOTE THAT IT IS BEST TO USE AN EXCAVATOR TO TRACK ROLL THE SURFACE BEFORE ROLLING. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO USE A TRACTOR AND BLADE IN MOST SITUATIONS.

Step 4: After spreading the STOCK ROCK and compacting then re-grade the surface to make it more even as it is common that the new capping settles.

How much does Stock Rock cost?

Stock Rock Costs $17 per ton at the quarry plus your cartage.

To do an estimate assessment of the cost of Stock Rock layed on your property can be done by adding the figures below.

Stock Rock weighs 1 ton per cubic meter

EXAMPLE 200M X 6M = 1200 sqm

Now that you know the total square area 1200 square meters add the following figures

1200sqm X .120mm X 1.5 = 216 ton Required.

NOTE: DEPENDING ON THE TOTALS TONS YOU MAY NEED TO ROUND UP THIS FIGURE TO THE NEXT NEAREST 30 TON

When you have worked out the total Square Area then you can do an estimate of $15 per square meter which is an estimate figure we use. Included in this figure is the following:

  1. An excavator to scrape off the existing farm race and stockpile the scrapings in the farm paddock next to farm race.

  2. Excavator to rip and reshape existing race to reform new race shape.

  3. Supply and deliver and spread and compact Stock Rock.

  4. Finished race surface to be leveled with excavator only.

Example: To do the minimum amount of Stock Rock 500sqm X 15sqm = $7500 + GST
